Al Green vs. JJ Grey and Mofro: Green is the undisputed king of soul music, the only living legend in a sadly under populated genre, and this year he enlisted ?uestlove, Anthony Hamilton, and other neo-soul luminaries to record "Lay It Down," his most classicist album in years. Mofro, which hails from northern Florida, sometimes gets pegged as a jam band as a result of its relentless touring, but, on "Orange Blossoms," the lead vocalist, JJ Grey, demonstrates why he is one of the finest young soul singers around.
